Footy Programs

Girls Only (13 years and under)

13 years and under

In 2018, the Sharks held a number of footy sessions for Girls Only.  Due to popular demand, in 2019 the Sharks are launching their first GIRLS ONLY Footy program.  The program will be held over the first half of the Sharks Season. After the 6-week introduction to footy, the girls may then transfer into the Mixed (boys and girls) footy training sessions in their respective age-group category.

Being our first year to launch the GIRLS ONLY Program, the Sharks have decided to offer all female players a heavily discounted Registration Fee of $50 for the Sharks Season, which includes their Sharks training, personalised footy jumper, shorts, socks, hat and Sharks designed footy.

Juniors (U5-U7’s)

U5 (Born 2014 or later)
U6 (Born in 2013)
U7 (Born in 2012)

Juniors is for boys & girls aged 4-7 years old, is an introductory program focused on having fun whilst learning the basics of ball handling, kicking, movement in a safe environment.  The U5 and U6 children training is located in the Big Gym (nice air con for the parents!).
We welcome parents to get involved and enjoy some footy with your kids.  The U7’s is on the Junior Oval where they develop skills and are introduced to playing mini matches.

Intermediates (U9-U13’s)

U9 (Born 2010/2011)
U11 (Born 2008/2009)
U13 (Born 2006/2007)

The intermediate program is focused on ball skills, fitness, teamwork and positioning.  The first 13 weeks of the season is focused on skill development using drills, modified games and some “Friendlies” to practise match play.  Towards the 10th week, all players are graded and assigned a team to compete in the “Lightning Rounds” season, which involves 6 exciting rounds of footy and is the competition structure for our Sharks.
The Lightning Rounds is only applicable to the Intermediate Program as they are at an age where we can adequately instruct them about safe play at a competitive level.

Seniors (teenagers 14 years and over + Adults)

Over 14's & Adults (Born 2005 and earlier)

Once teenagers are 14 years and over, they train with the Seniors team on Saturdays and Wednesdays, where the footy is at a competitive level with allowances for the age differences and safety is paramount.

The Senior Team plays the occasional match against “the other” Aussie Rules team in Singapore, The Wombats.  The over 35’s of the Senior Team, also tour each year to Bali for the Bali 9’s Tournament, which involves teams from around Asia.  By joining the Sharks Seniors, you will not only increase your fitness and develop footy skills to share with your kids, but also form some great friendships along the way.

Tours

Every year since 2010, the Sharks Club have toured somewhere in Asia or Australia to provide an opportunity for the kids to compete as a Sharks Team.  The Seniors team also has an annual tour to Bali to compete in The Bali 9’s and have frequently make the Grand Final and have managed to win (2011, 2014).

The Sharks Kids have toured in various locations around Asia, including Thailand (2014 & 2016), Shanghai (2017) and Hong Kong (2013, 2015, 2017).  Other Asian teams have reciprocated and toured to Singapore to compete, including the Bali Geckos (2014) and the Hong Kong Dragons (2014, 2016, 2018).  The children have also had the incredible opportunity to play at various AFL Matches (via the Half-Time Auskick Program) in various cities across Australia (2010, 2011, 2018) and even an AFL Match in Shanghai (2017)!!

In 2019 we will once again Tour to Hong Kong to continue our long tradition with the HK Dragons, for our Annual Tournament, a tradition that has continued every year since 2013!  We also hope to get another opportunity to play Half Time at the MCG – we will notify you once Tours are locked in!

Special Events

The Sharks Club is not just about Footy, as the Club likes to build the community with a few social events during the Season.  The events vary from year to year, ranging from Gala dinners, to Trivia Nights, Friday Night Footy Family BBQ’s, to Ladies Night on Mother’s Day.

Since 2014, the Sharks kids and parents alike have enjoyed the great opportunity to have current and past AFL footy stars visit our training sessions and social events.  This is a tradition that the Sharks always endeavour to deliver to our community to continue to instil the passion and love of this great game!

Footy legends we have had over the years to date include: Dan Jackson (2014); Jack Trengove and Andy Otten (2015); Matt White (2016); Nicola Barr and Sam Kekovich (2017 – 10th Anniversary Dinner); Peter Daicos (2018).
